If you’ve been thinking about starting your Laser Hair Removal journey but you’re not sure what to expect, this blog will take you through what a typical laser appointment looks like here at spectrum laser & skin care specialties, located in St. John’s, Newfoundland!
We always require each individual to book a complimentary consultation before undergoing laser services. A consultation is a crucial step in this process. It allows your laser technician to ensure that you do not have any contraindications for receiving laser & light based services, which just means they can make sure you’re a good candidate and that you’ll be safe to undergo the treatments. It also gives you an opportunity to learn about how your service works, what to expect from each session, what do to pre and post treatment, pricing, and get answers to any other questions you may have.
After your consultation, if there are no concerns or contraindications, you may book your laser service based on the area you are looking to treat. When you arrive for your session you will be greeted at the front desk by one of our girls and brought back to one of our treatment rooms.
Depending on the area you are treating, your technician may step out and allow you to get undressed where needed and get cozy under the blankets. Once it is time for your session to begin your technician will ask you if you have had any changes in medications, antibiotics, or tanning. It is important to let us know if you have, so we can make sure it is still safe to treat you.
We then apply a cold ultrasound gel to the area we are treating to act as a safety barrier between the laser crystal and your skin. You will then feel the cold hand piece pressed against your skin followed by a quick flash and ‘zap’ (this just feels like being flicked with a rubber band, as soon as it happens it’s over again!)
After your treatment is complete we will get you rebooked on a schedule depending on the area to be treated. Some areas are on a 4 week schedule, some are on a 6 week scheduled, and some are in an 8 week schedule.
Once you are rebooked for your next appointment you are all set! The only thing to do now is to follow the aftercare instructions your technician gave you in your consultation and try your best to stick to the schedule suggested.
