Business Owner/Operator
Passionate about pushing the boundaries of beauty “standards” and determined to infuse self-love in all of her clients’ days, Melanie has been in the beauty & service industry for a combined 10+ years. She has been trained in & out of province to now specialize in laser hair removal, teeth whitening and advanced facial techniques, such as microneedling. She successfully re-launched her career during a global pandemic to open Spectrum and offer Newfoundland a laser hair removal & skin care speciality company that not only supports local female entrepreneurs, but offers a safe space for all to come and enjoy.
Brittany Seward
Aesthetician & Electrologist
Brittany is an NACC certified aesthetician and electrologist, she’s been in the service & beauty industry for 15 years combined. Brittany’s lifelong career goals have always been to emerge herself in an industry where she can utilize her considerate, empathetic nature in combination with her academic knowledge – So naturally she is a perfect fit to the Spectrum brand! She’s excited about our “every body is a normal body” approach to the industry and supports our motto that “beauty is on a spectrum”.
Hannah Kirby
Aesthetician & Electrologyist
Hannah is a dedicated certified aesthetician and electrologist with a passion for dermaplaning, lash lifts, and hair removal. With her fresh young mind and eagerness to perfect her skills, she brings a wealth of value to our team at Spectrum Laser & Skincare Specialties. Hannah’s commitment to excellence is evident in her attention to detail and her unwavering dedication to providing exceptional service. Hannah spends her free time in the dance studio, honing in on her skills and guiding her students with her expertise. Her commitment to personal growth and continuous improvement is a testament to her drive and determination. With Hannah on our team, we are confident in our ability to deliver top-notch skincare services to our valued clients.
Our Brand
What started as a passion derived from childhood bullying and insecurities has now framed the way that we do business. The clinic is a space where everyday people can find a solution to the troubles that come with unwanted body hair. Within the beauty industry there is a knowledge that unwanted body hair is far more common than most people are comfortable talking about. “The more I worked in the beauty industry, the more I heard clients feeling defeated by the very same problems that I knew all too well.” explains owner, Melanie Dawe. She claims that for this reason, the clinic became something bigger than just wanting everyone to have access to what was once considered a “luxury” service. When asked about how the brand came to be, Melanie attributes the inspiration to her clientele, stating “each client that walks in with tears and frustration are met with someone who gets it, who genuinely understands the situation. We tell them how perfectly normal their struggles are but also how commonly we see their concerns. When needed, we aren’t shy about sharing our own experiences or insecurities, so that nobody feels isolated by the pressures often seen in the beauty industry.” Melanie explains that it was this vulnerability with her clients that eventually pushed her to open spectrum; a safe & fun place for people to not only feel better about themselves, but feel included in a like community.
Above the obvious of glowing envious skin and eliminating painful shaving for clients, that is what we hope each person takes away from the clinic. We hope that clients feel empowered, beautiful and fun. Everyone has their own “ideas” of what beauty is; but beauty is on a spectrum – it isn’t one idea that fits us all.
